A Word About Equipment

While I know not many of you  know much about equipment, just think back to the last event you were at where there was a DJ or a band...

Was the sound quality terrible?
Were the speakers distorted and all beat up?
Was the DJ's voice  muffled like he/she was talking into a paper bag?
Did the microphone squeal, pop, or hiss when it was turned on?
Was there "Dead Air" between songs that seemed like forever?
Did the song skip because the CD was scratched?
Did the DJ table look disorganized with cords and equipment all over the place?

Computerized Sound System

 A DJ TO GO only uses professional grade sound equipment. When I go out to perform at an event, I carry nearly $13,000 worth of equipment.  I do not use CD's to play music as most other DJ's do. CD's are good, but what happens if the CD is scratched or skips?  Rather, I use a highly sophisticated Computer with a program which allows me to mix the music from one song to another without any pause in the music. Most professional production companies such as Dick Clark, Carnival Cruise Lines, Miss America Pageant, Hard Rock Cafe' and others, use this specially made computer. Most Mobile DJ's do not use the system because it is expensive. I have seen the light and have been using the Lunchbox  version for the last 1 1/2 years. The system specifications are out of this world!!! It features a 220 GB hard drive, 1 GB RAM, a touch screen monitor, a message center so I can type in and display messages such as sequence of events at weddings for all guests to see, and also has  the capability to play music videos and also do Karaoke!!!

Back Up Laptop Computer

As a back up, I also carry a Dell Laptop computer with the same computer program but with less songs on the hard drive. The Laptop is set up on the DJ table, all turned on and ready to go. I have never had to use the back up system but it's always there, just in case.

A Word About Music Downloading

It is downright illegal!!! Report those that do to the R.I.A.A.

All of the music I have installed on my computers have come directly off of the CD's I own. I use a special program that tells me what songs are on each CD. I then "grab" the songs and convert them from a "WAV" file to an MP3 file. I convert them at a very high 192 bit rate for better than CD sound quality.

The industry standard for microphones!!! I couldn't and wouldn't think about using anything less!!! I use a wireless hand held microphone for Karaoke singers or for the toasts. I wear a headset wireless microphone for hands free operation and freedom to speak and move anywhere inside the facility I'm playing at!!!
